Eladio Romero Santo was a Dominican composer and pianist born on June 12, 1917, in San Francisco de Macorís, Dominican Republic. He is considered one of the most important figures in Dominican music history, especially in the merengue genre.

Romero Santo began his musical career as a self-taught pianist, eventually studying music at the National Conservatory of Music in Santo Domingo. He began composing music in the 1940s, with his first merengue hit, "La Muñeca," being recorded in 1952. He went on to compose and arrange over 200 merengues throughout his career, including "Llorando Me Dormí," "A Santiago Voy," and "La Mecedora."

Aside from his work in merengue, Romero Santo also composed music in other genres, such as bolero, guaracha, and danzón. He was also a prolific arranger and worked with many other artists, including Johnny Ventura and Rafael Solano.

Romero Santo was awarded the National Music Prize in 1970, and his contribution to Dominican music is still celebrated today. He passed away on January 10, 1998.
